Finding a breeder that breeds to the standard while screening for health is imperative.  It is important to reach out to your parent club for appropriate tools and resources.  An example of this for a specific breed would be Collie Club of America    (https://collieclubofamerica.org/) and more specifically ask for a listing of Breed Mentors (https://www.collieclubofamerica.org/cca_breed_mentors.html).  In addition, research whether your breed has information or a foundation on health respective to your chosen breed.
