Class Policies

Conformation; September 18 - October 23, 2021.; 6-weeks; Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. -10:45 a.m.  

We welcome beginners or seasoned show handlers. If you’re new to showing dogs, we will help you become familiar with the Conformation process and how to train your dog for the show ring. If you have shown before, the class will allow you to tune-up a seasoned show dog, or provide the environment to train your new puppy(s). If you have attended a previous SEKC 6 week Conformation class session, you may attend any of the classes during the session for a $10 per member drop-in; $12 for non-members; Half Price for Junior Handlers rate. Check this link out for more about Conformation. AKC CONFORMATION INFORMATION Note: This class is for AKC-UKC registered dogs only.  Other dogs with the permission of instructors.


Fundamentals for the Family Dog; starts Saturday, September 25th; 1 p.m. -1:45 p.m.; 6-weeks; Class will skip the Saturday of the SEKC Fall show and end on the first Saturday of November.

Course Description from Instructor Billie Kubat:

For the dog/handler team with no previous experience or have taken Puppy Playschool. Positive reinforcement, learn basic skills like walk with me, sit, down, stay, come. For dogs 5 months and older. Introduction to skills necessary to pass the CGC Canine Good Citizen Program. A great way to get a foundation for any direction you want to take your dog, weather that be obedience, rally, or whatever. It lays the foundation to be an amazing team! 

Novice Obedience; Tuesdays 5:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.; 6 weeks; Starts September 21, 2021.

Class focus is on training the handler and dog skills needed to compete in AKC Beginner Novice, Pre-novice, Novice, and UKC Novice. Emphasis is placed on maintaining correct heel position and straight front position. Scoring and rules are discussed during Classes.

THE GOAL – To Provide the basic knowledge and control needed to perform a novice routine.


  • Proper footwork for heeling (turns and halts)
  • Introduce off-lead work with emphasis on control
  • Pivots
  • Proof on-lead work including heeling, fronts, finishes, stays, and stand for exam
  • Reinforce handler and dog enthusiasm and attention
  • Introduce random sits and downs and the “take it command”

Beginner Agility; Thursday 6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.; 6 weeks; Starts September 23, 2021.  No Class on Tuesday SEKC meeting night, which will then be made-up.
